Eighty Egyptian officials at the interior ministry and former ministers have been accused of getting up to billion Egyptian pounds illegally during the period between 2000–2011.

According to the proofs of evidence, announced by the Investigative judge Mohammed Abu Bakr, the ministry had given police leaders around 1,134,900,371 pounds to meet the security objectives during the period from 2000 to July 15, 2011, out of the budget of the Ministry of Interior.

The announced amount equals to 269,189 pounds as a day to day rate, which exceeds the total annual per capita income in Egypt by 120%.
