We are happy to announce that applications for InfoTimes’ 2019 Fall Internship Program in Cairo are now open.

InfoTimes, a globally-awarded organization combining data science, information design, and storytelling, is offering a twelve-week immersion program for recent graduates or early-career journalists. This is a great opportunity to build or hone your technical and journalistic skills within the data science field.

“There is a scarcity of data journalists in the Arab world”, said InfoTimes founder Amr Eleraqi. One reason behind this, he explained, is that there not enough training is provided in the region. Another reason is fast-paced everyday news coverage does not allow the time for producing data-driven stories.

“We would love for others to experience and learn what we do”, Eleraqi said.

The intern would acquire basic knowledge of data journalism through theoretical and practical training with the support of the entire team.

This unpaid internship will focus on data collection, data analysis, data visualization, and turning data into journalistic stories. Interns will learn how to use the latest storytelling and data tools, including Tabula, Tableau, Flourish, Data Wrapper, and GetHub.

What we require is a mix of drive, vision, commitment and stubbornness, as well as being excited by the idea of deciphering data complexity. And a laptop.

By the end of the program, interns would have produced at least two data-driven journalistic stories.

Beyond the office, we can help you attend regional and worldwide workshops and events as an InfoTimes ambassador.

The application deadline is August 20. Successful candidates will be contacted by August 25.
