The layout for this paper was done for Alternative Policy Solutions, a public policy research project at The American University in Cairo. The paper proposes a carbon tax on energy-intensive industries as a means to provide clean and cheap solar energy in Egypt. It states that the financing challenge is the most apparent constraint that inhibits the growth of the solar energy share in the country’s energy mix. Since the energy issue is not only important for scholars, the challenge was how to elaborate international models and the paper’s recommendations using attractive visuals to reach a wide audience the smoothest way possible.
